Iowa extended their season-high winning streak to seven games with a 5-2 victory over Portland … The Cubs pitching staff combined to surrender just two runs on six hits, while striking out 15 and walking one.

HOMERS – Micah Hoffpauir (2)

? RF Micah Hoffpauir drove in all five of Iowa’s runs, going 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer … he is 5-for-9 (.556) with a double, two homers, and nine RBI in his last two games.
? LF Matt Murton, who was 1-for-4 with a run scored, extended his hitting streak to seven games … over the span, he is hitting .440 (11-for-25) with three doubles, two walks, five runs scored, and three RBI.
? RHP Kevin Hart held Portland’s offense to just one run on two hits, while walking one and fanning six … in two home contests, he boasts no record with a 1.17 ERA (1 ER/7.2 IP) and 12 strikeouts.
? RHP Jose Ascanio struck out the side in the ninth for his ninth save, good for third in the Pacific Coast League.


Tennessee Smokies (AA): 15-24 Overall

The Smokies tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth and the score remained that way until Huntsville finally notched a run in the 13th, as Tennessee dropped the nail-biter, 3-2 in 13 frames.

? 3B Kyle Reynolds led the Smokies offense, going 3-for-6 with an RBI.
? LHP James Russell held the hot hitting Stars to two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings of work … he kept the Stars off the board through three, before surrendering solo homers in both the fourth and fifth frames.


Daytona Cubs (A+): 18-20 Overall

East Division Tied 4th Place (-5.0)

Brevard County evened the series at one-game apiece with their 3-0 blanking of Daytona … the two squads combined to strand 26 men on the basepaths (BC – 11; D – 15).

RHP Marco Carillo (ND 1-3, 2.53) 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

? RHP Marco Carillo handcuffed the Manatees through six, bringing a no-hitter into the seventh … with one out in the seventh, Lorenzo Cain singled to right field, but Carillo shut down the next two batters to end the threat.
? RF James Adducci went 2-for-4, recording his 19th multi-hit affair of the season … with two outs and RISP, he is hitting at a .421 (8-for-19) clip with five walks and eight RBI.
