Iowa and Nashville were locked in a low-scoring battle until the I-Cubs put up six runs in the eighth, winning 8-3.

HOMERS – Felix Pie (3), Eric Patterson (2)

? RF Josh Kroeger was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI … the double was his team-leading 16th of the season.
? 2B Eric Patterson went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, a run scored and an RBI … the solo shot, his second of the year, tied the game at 3-3 and opened the eighth-inning scoring outburst.
? RHP Hector Carrasco tossed 3.0 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just a hit and a walk while striking out two to earn the victory and extend his scoreless inning streak to 8.1 IP.
? Iowa’s pitching is tops in the PCL with a 3.98 team ERA (216 ER/ 488.2 IP).



Tennessee Smokies (AA): 24-33 Overall

Tennessee rode the long ball in the late innings, erasing a 4-2 deficit on the way to a 9-5 victory over West Tennessee.

RHP Tanner Watson (ND 1-1, 4.93 ) 3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

HOMERS – Matt Craig (3), Sam Fuld (1)

? CF Sam Fuld went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI … his three-run dinger in the eighth, his first of the season, put the Smokies in front for good.
? 1B Matt Craig fell a triple shy of the cycle, going 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, a homer, two runs scored and an RBI … he raised his average to .387 (29-for-75) and is reaching base at a .540 clip.
? The Tennessee defense helped pick up a pitching staff that allowed 10 hits and eight walks by turning four double plays, stranding 10 Diamond Jaxx runners.


Daytona Cubs (A+): 27-29 Overall

East Division 4th Place (-8.0)

Jupiter jumped out for two in the first, but Daytona scored the next eight runs of the ballgame, finishing off the Hammerheads, 8-3.

RHP Esmailin Caridad (W 5-4, 4.33) 5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

? 2B Jonathan Mota went 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored, raising his average to .337 … he is 5-for-8 (.625) with two walks, a double, a triple, three runs scored and an RBI so far this series.
? LF Ty Wright was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored … he extended his hitting streak to eight games, over which he is hitting .382 (13-for-34).
? RHP Rocky Roquet picked up his second hold of the year, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings with a hit and two strikeouts … he has not allowed a run since his first appearance with Daytona, and has yielded just three hits and a walk while striking out four over the 7.0 scoreless inning span.


Peoria Chiefs (A-): 24-32 Overall

Western Division Tied 5th Place (-16.0)

Peoria pounded out 14 hits, with every Chiefs hitter picking up at least one, as they took the series opener at Wisconsin, 6-4.

RHP Hung-Wen Chen (W 1-3, 3.33) 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

? RF Dylan Johnston went 3-for-4 with a walk, a homer, a run and two RBI … his team-leading eighth long ball, a solo shot leading off the second inning, proved to be the game-winner.
? 2B Marquez Smith was 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and an RBI … he leads the Chiefs in both runs (32) and RBI (26) and is tied for the Midwest League lead with 26 extra-base hits.
