Albuquerque jumped out for five runs in the first inning, sending Iowa to a 9-6 defeat.

HOMERS –   Micah Hoffpauir (4)

? 1B Micah Hoffpauir was 2-for-5 with a double, a homer, a run scored and four RBI … the long ball, his fourth of the year, was a three-run shot in the ninth inning.
? 3B Casey McGehee went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored … he is 8-for-16 with two walks, two doubles, a homer, five runs scored and four RBI in his last four games.
? LHP Carmen Pignatiello tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, yielding one hit while striking out three.
? I-Cubs manager Pat Listach was selected as a coach for the XM All-Star Futures Game.



Tennessee Smokies (AA): 7-2 Overallsmokies.gif
North Division 1st Place (+2.0)

For the second night in a row the Smokies scored four times in the first inning on their way to an 11-5 thumping of West Tennessee.

RHP Mitch Atkins (W 7-6, 4.05) 5.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K

? LF Tyler Colvin continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBI … he is 6-for-13 with a walk, a double, a triple, a homer, three runs scored and five RBI so far this series.
? RF Doug Deeds recorded his fourth straight multi-hit affair, finishing 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI … he raised his average to .322, good for the team lead and fifth in the Southern League.
? C-IF Jake Fox was named Southern League Hitter of the Week for June 16-22, hitting .550 (11-for-20) with four doubles, three homers, six runs scored and 13 RBI over that span.


Peoria Chiefs (A-): 3-5 Overallchiefs.gif
Western Division Tied 6th Place (-4.0)

The Chiefs lead from wire to wire, scoring twice in the first and adding five more in the seventh to swat the Bees, 10-3.

RHP Kevin Kreier (W 3-2, 3.86) 6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

HOMERS – Luis Bautista (5), Brandon Guyer (6)

? 1B Luis Bautista and LF Brandon Guyer both homered for the second consecutive day … Bautista went 2-for-5 with a double, the dinger, a run scored and two RBI, while Guyer also finished 2-for-5, with a homer, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base.
? Starter Kevin Kreier hurled 6.0 innings of shutout ball, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out three … it was his longest outing of the year, and the third time in his last four starts that he has not allowed a run.
? Every Peoria starter hit safely, with seven of the nine recording multi-hit games.

East Division Tied 3rd Place (-2.0)

Boise provided more than enough offense for the pitching staff, which combined to throw a two-hitter in the Hawks 10-1 triumph.

HOMERS – Ryan Flaherty (2)

? SS Ryan Flaherty recorded his first multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and three RBI.
? Naperville native RHP Mike Perconte tossed 4.0 innings of one-hit, shutout relief with a walk and seven strikeouts to earn his first victory.


Mesa Cubs (R): 1-3 Overall

Mesa took a 7-5 lead to the bottom of the eighth, but the AZL Brewers came roaring back to hand the AZL Cubs an 11-7 defeat.

RHP Dionis Nunez (ND) 3.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

? 3B John Contreras turned in the Cubs’ lone multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI … he has hit safely in all four games this year, going 6-for-13 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and four RBI.
? 1B Sean Hoorelbeke went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a stolen base … he has two walks, two doubles and four RBI over his first two games played.
