It may have taken 10 innings, but Tennessee took the 8-7 win and the series split with Carolina.

HOMERS – Jake Fox (8)

? With one out in the top of the 10 th, CF Tyler Colvin, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, doubled in the winning run … he is hitting at a .667 (4-for-6) clip with two walks, three doubles and an RBI in extra-innings.
? Starter Donnie Veal picked off two baserunners as well as tossing 5.2 innings of one-run, four-hit ball.
? SS Matt Camp and 2B Matt Matulia each recorded three hits, combing to go 6-for-10 with a triple, five runs scored and two RBI.



Daytona Cubs (A+): 9-8 Overall

Daytona dropped the series opener to Dunedin, 7-4 … the clubs combined for 20 hits and five errors.

RHP Marco Carillo (L 5-6, 3.31) 5.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

? Starter Marco Carillo was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for his 8.0-inning shutout July 2.
? 2B Tony Thomas was 3-for-5 with a run scored … he is batting .306 (57-for-186) with 13 doubles, two triples, four homers, 30 runs scored and 21 RBI from the leadoff spot.
? C Blake Lalli hit in his fifth straight game, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI … he is 9-for-20 (.450) with two doubles, four runs scored and seven RBI over that span.
? 1B Russ Canzler doubled twice in the game, recording his first multi-double game of the season.


Peoria Chiefs (A-): 12-7 Overall

Quad Cities scored eight runs on eight hits and held Peoria scoreless through eight, beating the Chiefs, 8-2.

RHP Robert Hernandez (L 1-1, 5.82) 4.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

HOMERS – Luis Bautista (9)

? DH Luis Bautista, who went 2-for-4, connected for his ninth homer of the season, a two-run shot in the ninth … he has belted four homers over his last five games … he is 33-for-77 (.429) with nine doubles, six homers and 18 RBI in 21 games away from O’Brien Field. Bautista was named the Midwest League Player of the Week after batting .524 (11-for-21) with four doubles, three homers and eight RBI in six games.
? RHP Craig Muschko bounced back from a three-run outing on July 3 to toss 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and no walks, while striking out three.


Boise Hawks (A-): 11-10 Overall

Boise recorded its second series win of the season with an 8-1 victory over the Canadians … the Hawks plated four runs in both the fourth and fifth frames.

RHP Casey Coleman (ND 1-1, 3.46) 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

HOMERS – Kyler Burke (2)

? RF Kyler Burke belted a two-out grand slam in the fifth inning, his second homer of the young season … he ended the day 2-for-4 with the blast, a run scored and a season-high six RBI.
? RHP Tommy Mejia threw 3.0 scoreless innings of relief en route to his first win of the year … he has yet to surrender a run since his first outing, a span of four games (10.0 IP).
? LF David Macias picked up his first three-hit affair, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.


Mesa Cubs (R): 7-6 Overall

The AZL Cubs let their bats do the talking, pounding the AZL Giants, 17-4 … Mesa extended its brief win streak to three games, outscoring their opponent, 26-7 over the span.

HOMERS – Nelson Perez (3), Sean Hoorelbeke (1)

? RF Nelson Perez added a solo shot, his third of the season, to the Cubs six-run eighth inning … he ended the day 2-for-6 with a double, the homer, two runs scored and two RBI. Perez extended his hit streak to eight games and homered in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
? LF Jericho Jones fell a homer shy of the cycle and recorded his fifth straight multi-hit affair, going 4-for-5 with a walk, a double, triple, three runs scored and three RBI  … he is 12-for-20 (.600) with two doubles, two triples, a homer, eight runs scored and six RBI over those games.
