Iowa Cubs (AAA): 60-40 Overall

Despite ending the first half of the season with a 14-8 loss to Albuquerque, the I-Cubs own the best record in the Pacific Coast League, 60-40.

HOMERS – Andres Torres (9), Josh Kroeger (12)

? CF Andres Torres plated a season-high four Cubs for the third time this season, going 2-for-5 with a double, a homer and a run scored … he is hitting at a .339 (42-for-124) clip with six homers and 23 RBI in 34 games away from Principal Park.
? Starter Jeff Samardzija recorded his fifth straight quality start, while showing up at the plate as well … he doubled to left in the second, recording a hit in each of his last three starts.
? 3B Matt Craig collected his second straight multi-hit affair, going 2-for-4 with a walk … he is hitting .500 (6-for-12) over his first five games with the I-Cubs.

Daytona Cubs (A+): 14-10 Overall

Daytona edged Clearwater, 3-2, to win its fifth series of the second half.

RHP Marcos Mateo (W 2-2, 4.15) 5.0 IP, 4  H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

? 3B Marquez Smith extended his hitting streak to five games, going 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored and an RBI … he is 7-for-20 (.350) with three walks, two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and four RBI in six games since his promotion from Peoria.
? RHP Blake Parker converted his third straight save, yielding just one hit over his scoreless ninth frame.
? Seven different Cubs recorded a hit in the game with three going for extra-bases … Smith, 1B Russ Canzler and SS Robinson Chirinos each doubled in the win.

Peoria Chiefs (A-): 17-8 Overall

Peoria tried to rally, but couldn’t overcome West Michigan’s lead as the Whitecaps beat the Chiefs, 10-2.

RHP Kevin Kreier (L 4-3, 3.66) 3.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

? SS Nate Samson was the lone Chief to record a multi-hit affair, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored … his .302 (99-for-328) average ranks tied for ninth in the Midwest League.
? LF Brandon Guyer put the Chiefs on the board with a sacrifice fly in the third … he ended the day 1-for-3 with the RBI.

Boise Hawks (A-): 15-12 Overall

Boise and Tri-City were locked in a 5-5 tie going into the seventh, but the Hawks rallied late by scoring in the seventh and eighth frames to defeat the Dust Devils, 8-5.

RHP Josh Whitlock (ND 0-1, 6.53) 4.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

? CF Josh Harrison was 3-for-5 with a stolen base, two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI … he is riding a six-game hit streak, going 13-for-28 (.464) with six doubles, one homer, 11 runs scored and six RBI over the stretch.
? SS Marwin Gonzalez picked up his second three-hit affair over his last four games, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI … he is 8-for-21 (.381) with 11 RBI with RISP.
? C Michael Brenly recorded his first multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored … he is batting .375 (6-for-16) with a pair of doubles in five home games.

Mesa Cubs (R): 10-8 Overall

Mesa has lost back-to-back contests for the first time since dropping the first two games of the season, as the AZL Cubs fell to the AZL Giants, 8-6.

? RF Nelson Perez fell a homer shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI … of the 14 games he has recorded a hit in, eight have been multi-hit contests.
? SS Junior Lake doubled for the first time this season as part of a 4-for-5 showing, where he also scored a run and drove in two.
