? CF-LF Andres Torres extended his hitting streak to five games with a solo shot in the first frame … he is 8-for-20 (.400) with two doubles, two homers, five runs scored and seven RBI over the stretch.
? 3B Casey McGehee drove in the game-winning run with his homer in the fourth frame.
? Starter Jeff Samardzija extended his winning streak to four games when he pitched his fifth quality start with the Cubs … he is 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA (4 ER/19.0 IP) and a complete game in three starts at Principal Park.

The Smokies snapped their brief three-game losing skid with a 7-3 win over Huntsville.

? CF Sam Fuld added a two-run long ball as part of the Smokies four-run third inning … he ended the night 2-for-4 with a walk, the clout, two runs scored and three RBI.

Daytona posted five runs in the seventh and its all the offense the club needed, as the Cubs beat the Reds, 5-1.

HOMERS – Robinson Chirinos (3)

? C Robinson Chirinos connected for his first home run since July 3, a two-out, two-run roundtripper in the seventh.
? RHP Todd Blackford tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief en route to this third win of the season, yielding one hit, walking none and fanning two … he has yet to surrender a run over his last five outings (10.2 IP).
? RHP Blake Parker shut down the two batters he faced in the ninth, earning his fifth save of the season … he extended his scoreless innings streak to 5.0 (five appearances).

Peoria evened the series at one game apiece with its 7-1 victory over the Loons … the Chiefs look to take the rubber match and their third straight series with this morning’s contest.

? CF Jonathan Wyatt recorded his third four-hit affair of the season, going 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI … he has hit safely in his last 11 games, going 16-for-41 (.390) with seven walks, two doubles, two roundtrippers, 10 runs scored and four RBI over the stretch.
? 1B Rebel Ridling drove in three Chiefs for the third time since joining the club … he was 2-for-4 with the three RBI … he is hitting at a .333 (7-for-21) clip at O’Brien Field.

Its good to see those numbers out of Samardzija. Is there any chance he would make a major league appearance this year?
