Iowa used a commanding performance from RHP Mitch Atkins and a five-RBI day from Micah Hoffpauir to overwhelm Salt Lake, 7-3.

RHP Mitch Atkins (W 5-0, 3.90) 6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 11 K

HOMERS – Jason Dubois (20), Micah Hoffpauir (14)

? Starting pitcher Atkins allowed one run, three hits, struck out 11, walked none and retired the final 16 batters he faced before leaving after six innings … won his 10th straight start (5-0 at Triple-A Iowa after he was promoted from Double-A Tennessee, where he won his final five starts).
? 1B Hoffpauir went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double, a home run and five RBI … he has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, going  25-for-63 (.397) with 10 doubles, five homers, 12 runs scored and 26 RBI over that stretch.
? LF Jason Dubois went 2-for-4 with a run, a double, his team-leading 20th home run and an RBI.

Despite a furious late-inning rally, Tennessee couldn’t overcome an early double-digit deficit, losing a 15-11 slugfest to the division-leading Carolina Mudcats.

HOMERS – Jake Fox (16), Tyler Colvin 2 (11), Nate Spears (5)

? LF Tyler Colvin feasted on Carolina pitching, blasting two home runs (including a grand slam) and a triple … he finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs and six RBI.
? 1B Jake Fox smacked a solo home run in the fourth inning, part of a 2-for-4 day that included two runs scored, a walk and two RBI.
? 2B Nate Spears went 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs, a seventh-inning, two-run homer and two RBI.


Daytona Cubs (A+): 24-15 Overall

Daytona landed in a pitcher’s duel for the second time in three days falling to Brevard County 1-0 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

RHP Hung-Wen Chen (ND 2-0, 2.72) 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K

? Starting RHP Hung-Wen Chen allowed a few early baserunners, but then retired 13 consecutive batters … in 6.0 shutout innings, Chen allowed two hits and two walks while striking out six. 
? RHP Todd Blackford retired the first four batters he faced in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out one, lowering his ERA to 2.15.


Peoria Chiefs (A-): 23-20 Overallchiefs.gif
Western Division 3rd Place (-2.5)

South Bend beat Peoria 6-4 Sunday as a two-run, eighth-inning double by the Silver Hawks provided the winning margin.

RHP Audy Santana (ND 1-5, 3.66) 5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

HOMERS – Jovan Rosa (5), Nate Samson (3)

? Starting RHP Audy Santana was rock-solid on the mound, hurling 5.0 innings of three-hit, two-run ball … he walked one and stuck out four.
? SS Nate Samson went 2-for-4 with two runs, a homer and an RBI, extending his hitting streak to 12 games … he is hitting .355 over that stretch.
? 3B Jovan Rosa went 2-for-4 with a run, a home run and three RBI … his 66 RBI lead the Chiefs.


Boise Hawks (A-): 29-17 Overall

Boise opened their road trip to Yakima with a 13-5 victory over the Bears … the Hawks trailed 4-0 after two innings, before taking control of the ball game with a seven-run, third inning.

HOMERS – Sean Hoorelbeke (1), Kyler Burke (5)

? DH Sean Hoorelbeke launched a grand slam in the third inning, his first home run since being called up to the Hawks … he finished the day 1-for-5 with a walk, a run and four RBI.
? RF Kyler Burke added a two-run homer, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
? 3B Josh Vitters went 1-for-6 with a double, a run and an RBI extending his hitting streak to 11 games … he has gone 19-for-52 (.365) with seven doubles, a homer, 11 runs scored and four RBI over the streak.
? LF Andrew Rundle went 4-for-5 with a walk, two doubles, two runs and two RBI.


Mesa Cubs (R): 5-2 Overall

Mesa used a six-run, seventh-inning to race past the AZL Giants, 7-5.

? 2B Junior Lake went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and his 20th RBI of the season.

? Starter Christopher Huseby delivered 2.0 scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one.
