Iowa Cubs (AAA): 80-55 Overall

Iowa scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat Oklahoma, 5-3, and clinch the American Northern Division title … Iowa returns to the Pacific Coast League playoffs for the first time since 2004 … the I-Cubs will play Oklahoma in the first round of the playoffs starting on Wednesday, September 3 at Principal Park in Des Moines.

RHP Mitch Atkins (ND 7-1, 4.56) 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K  

HOMERS – Koyie Hill (16)

? SS Luis Figueroa went 2-for-4 with a run scored … he has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, going  19-for-45 (.422) with three doubles, nine runs scored and six RBI over that stretch.
? C Koyie Hill launched his 16th homer of the year as part of a 2-for-3 day including a walk, the roundtripper, two runs scored and three RBI … this marks the third time he has hit home runs in back-to-back games this season.
? RHP Kevin Hart recorded his fifth save with a scoreless ninth frame, allowing one hit and striking out three … made his sixth straight appearance without allowing a run, extending his scoreless innings streak to 5.2 innings pitched.



Tennessee Smokies (AA): 32-30 Overall

The Smokies pummeled Chattanooga, 10-1, to creep within six games of division-leading Carolina with eight games remaining.

RHP Esmailin Caridad (W 7-3, 3.33) 6.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K   

HOMERS – Matt Camp (1)

? RF Matt Camp hit his first home run of the season as part of a 2-for-5 day with the homer, two runs scored and two RBI … he is hitting .333 (73-for-219) in 64 home games this season.
? 1B Jake Fox went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and his 77th RBI, which is second on the team to     Tyler Colvin (78) … he is hitting .354 (29-for-82) in August.
? Starting pitcher Esmailin Caridad earned his seventh win of the season, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run, six-hit ball, walking one and striking out four … he is 3-0 with a 1.77 ERA (4 ER/20.2 IP) in his last three starts.


Daytona Cubs (A+): 32-22 Overall

Daytona took the first game of a rain-shortened, double-header against St. Lucie, 6-5, in seven-innings … Game 2 was rained out and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader beginning this evening … the Cubs will play 10 games (six on road, four at home) in the next seven days as Tropical Storm Fay continues to wreak havoc with the Florida State League schedule.

RHP Marcos Mateo (ND 4-3, 3.63) 4.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K  

HOMERS – Ryan Harvey (9), Jonathan Mota (3)

? PH-DH Blake Lalli went 2-for-2 with his 44th RBI, extending his hitting streak to four games … he is hitting .467 (7-for-15) over the streak.
? RF Ryan Harvey went 1-for-2 with a walk, his ninth home run, two runs scored and an RBI … he homered in two-straight games for the first time this season and is hitting .295 in 12 August contests.
? 3B Jonathan Mota fell a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, three RBI and his sixth stolen base … he has six hits in his last three games.


Peoria Chiefs (A-): 28-34 Overall

Peoria lost a heart-breaker to Cedar Rapids, 2-1 in 10 innings.

LHP Chris Siegfried (ND 5-6, 6.14) 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K   

? 1B Luis Bautista went 2-for-4 … he has recorded multiple hits in five of his last seven games.
? DH Dylan Johnston went 1-for-4 with a double … he has hit in six straight games, going 10-for-20 (.500) with two walks, three doubles, a homer, four runs scored and three RBI over that span.
? RHP Chris Siegfried made his first start for the Chiefs since July 6 (his previous 11 appearances were in relief) and was solid in his 5.0 innings of work, allowing one run on five hits and a walk, while fanning two.


Boise Hawks (A-): 38-28 Overall

Kyler Burke went 3-for-3 and Drew Rundle hit a home run to help the Boise Hawks to an 11-5 victory over the Yakima Bears.

HOMERS – Drew Rundle (7)

? 3B Josh Vitters went 2-for-5 with an RBI to raise his average to .346 … he has hit safely in 29 of his last 30 games, including 18 multi-hit affairs.
? LF-RF Rundle went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, the home run, two runs scored and two RBI.
? RF Burke’s 3-for-3 night included a double and three runs scored, extending his hitting streak to seven games … he is 11-for-23 (.478) over the streak.
? C Michael Brenly went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, three runs scored and an RBI … he has multiple hits in three of his last six games.
? 2B-SS Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and four RBI … he is hitting .358 in 22 August games.
