Daytona swept a doubleheader from Vero Beach, extending its winning streak to six games … the victories kept Daytona ahead of Jupiter by a slim margin in winning percentage as the teams battle for first place in the Florida State League Eastern Division.

Game One:

Steve Clevenger knocked in three runs in the opener, as Daytona prevailed 5-3.

RHP Jay Jackson (W 2-0, 1.59) 5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K   

? C Clevenger went 3-for-3 with his 19th double … he has five hits in his last seven at-bats … he is hitting .351 (20-for-57) in 18 August games.
? SS Darwin Barney went 2-for-2 with a walk, a triple and an RBI … his four triples are tied for the team lead with Tony Thomas.

Ty Wright had three hits in the nightcap as the Cubs rolled over Vero Beach, 4-1.

? Starting pitcher Dustin Sasser made his first start of the year after 19 relief appearances … he allowed a run on three hits while punching out four.
? RHP Jordan Latham picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two in 3.0 scoreless innings … he extended his scoreless innings streak to 13.0 (eight outings).
? RHP Brian Schlitter recorded his second save for Daytona, pitching a scoreless ninth inning … he is unscored upon in 7.0 innings since being acquired from Philadelphia August 7.



Iowa Cubs (AAA): 80-57 Overall

Memphis scored four runs in the seventh inning, racing past Iowa, 6-4.

? CF Felix Pie went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored … he is hitting .322 (38-for-118) since the All-Star break.
? 1B Micah Hoffpauir went 2-for-3 with a walk, his 24th home run, two runs scored and three RBI … he is hitting .396 (40-for-101) in 25 August games while his 95 RBI lead the team.
? Starting pitcher Jason Stanford was perfect through 4.0 innings …  all told he pitched 5.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three … he is 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA (5 ER/17.0 IP) in his last three starts.

Chattanooga defeated Tennessee, 5-4 in the opener of a rain-plagued doubleheader … the second game was cancelled.

HOMERS – Chad Fox (25)

? CF Sam Fuld went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI, extending his hitting streak to 15 games … he is 28-for-65 (.431) with 11 walks, three doubles, 10 runs scored, 10 RBI and four stolen bases over the stretch, raising his batting average from .232 to .273.
? 1B Jake Fox went 2-for-4 with his team-leading 25th home run, a run scored and an RBI … he is hitting .374 (34-for-91) in August.
? RHP Greg Reinhard took the tough-luck loss, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out two in 2.0 innings of relief.

Clinton rallied past Peoria, 2-1.

? 3B Jovan Rosa went 3-for-4 with two doubles, adding to his Chiefs single-season record of 43 two-baggers … Rosa leads the Midwest League in doubles and ranks second with 53 extra-base hits.
? SS Nate Samson went 2-for-4 with an RBI … he leads the team in walks (39), hits (140) and runs scored (68) … with five games left to play, he ranks eighth in the Midwest League in batting average (.298) and fifth in hits.
? Starting pitcher Kevin Kreier was strong in 6.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out four, and recording his fourth quality start.


Boise Hawks (A-): 40-29 Overall

The Hawks soared past Yakima, 8-6 … Boise trails Spokane by six games in the division standings with seven games remaining in the regular season.

? LF Andrew Rundle went 2-for-3 with a walk, his 18th double, a run scored, an RBI and his fifth stolen base … he has multiple hits in three of his past four games.
? RF Kyler Burke reached base four times, going 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored … he is hitting .323 (31-for-96) in 26 August games.
? 2B Marwin Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, extending his hitting streak to five games … he is hitting .356 (32-for-90) in 25 August contests.
? CF Kurt Calvert stole two bags for the second time this season.

? 3B Junior Lake went 2-for-3 with a walk, extending his hitting streak to four games.
? DH Vincent Watkins went 2-for-4 with a run scored … he has hit safely in seven of his last eight contests.
? RHP Kitt Kopach yielded one hit and one walk over 2.0 scoreless innings of relief, striking out two … he has a 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11 IP) with 11 strikeouts in six August appearances.
