First round in Daytona
The Cubs’ top choice in this year’s draft, Andrew Cashner, was promoted to high Class-A Daytona today. He’s scheduled to pitch Friday, with the Cubs in first place atop the Florida State League East Division.
Cashner replaced left-hander Jeremy Papelbon, who hit the disabled list with a burst finger blister. Papelbon had thrown 35.2 straight scoreless innings before being removed from his last start.
The Cubs and Cubs wives will host their sixth annual food drive, benefitting the Lakeview Pantry, on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 1 p.m. through the third inning of the 2:55 start.
Fans who make a donation of 10 non-perishable food items or of $20 will receive a 5-by-7 photo autographed by a player. Each fan can get up to two photos, and donations will be accepted outside Gate D at Sheffield and Addison.
