Iowa Cubs (AAA): 83-59 Overall
Northern Division 1st Place (+8.0)

Trailing 2-1 in the sixth inning of Game 1 in its Pacific Coast League playoff series, Iowa broke the game open with eight runs, racing past Oklahoma, 10-3 … Game 2 is tonight in Des Moines before the series shifts to Oklahoma on Friday.

Iowa finished 83-59 in the American North Division, its best record since going 85-59 in 1998 … Oklahoma (76-68) won the American South … Iowa’s previous playoff appearance was in 2004, when the I-Cubs defeated Oklahoma three-games-to-two in the first round … the Iowa-Oklahoma winner will meet the winner of Salt Lake-Sacramento in the Pacific League Championship Series … the PCL champion will play the International League champion in a    one-game matchup in Oklahoma City.

HOMERS – Jason Dubois (1)

? CF Felix Pie went 1-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI.
? 2B Bobby Scales reached base twice during the team’s eight-run sixth inning, going 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
? 1B Jason Dubois went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, a run scored and three RBI.
? 3B Luis Figueroa reached base four times, going 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
? Starting pitcher Randy Wells earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six in 6.0 innings.
? RHP Kevin Hart was recalled by Chicago before the game … the I-Cubs added INF Jake Fox, OF Sam Fuld, INF Nate Spears, C Welington Castillo, RHP Rocky Roquet and LHP Ed Campusano to its playoff roster.



Daytona Cubs (A+): 38-24 Overall
East Division 1st Place (+0.5)

Trailing 8-3, Daytona exploded for six eighth-inning runs en route to a 10-9 victory over Palm Beach in the first game of the best-of-three playoff series … rain delayed the game for 44 minutes in the bottom of the seventh inning … Game 2 is tonight in Daytona … if necessary, Game 3 will be played in Jupiter on Friday night.

Daytona earned the playoff berth by winning the FSL East Division’s second half with a 38-24 record, a .613 winning percentage … Palm Beach won the first half with a 42-28 mark … the Daytona-Palm Beach winner will meet Fort Myers in the  best-of-five FSL Championship Series.

LHP James Russell (ND 0-0, 5.40) 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K   

HOMERS – Russ Canzler (1)

? 2B Tony Thomas went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
? CF James Adduci went 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI.
? C Steve Clevenger collected three hits, going 3-for-5.
? 1B Russ Canzler went 2-for-5 with a home run, a run scored and two RBI.
? 3B Jonathan Mota reached base three times, going 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored.
? SS Darwin Barney collected three hits, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
? RHP Brian Schlitter walked one before retiring the final batter of the game to earn the one-out (0.1 IP) save.


Boise Hawks (A-): 43-33 Overall
East Division 2nd Place (-8.0)

Boise dropped its season finale to Spokane, 3-1 … the Hawks finished the season with a 43-33 record, the second-best mark in the Northwest League.

RHP Christopher Carpenter (L 4-2, 4.22) 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 7 K   

? 2B David Macias went 1-for-3 with a run scored … he hit .462 (6-for-13) in four games playing second base.
? LF Andrew Rundle went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI … he hit safely in seven of his last nine games.
? SS Ryan Flaherty collected two hits, going 2-for-4 with a double.
? LHP Luke Sommer tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, allowing a hit while punching out two … he was unscored upon in his last four appearances (11.0 IP), allowing no walks while striking out eight.
