Cactus Notes: Sonnanstine outrighted to Iowa

Mesa, Ariz — The Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Andy Sonnanstine was assigned outright to the organization’s Triple-A Iowa squad Thursday. Entering spring training vying for a spot in the rotation, the 29-year-old posted a 14.40 ERA in five innings through four games.

The move reduces the current roster to 47 players, and Chicago’s 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.

Sonnanstine came over as a free agent in the offseason. He spent the last five years with the Rays, winning 28 games in his time in Tampa as both a starter and reliever.
