Matt Szczur shines in losing Solar Sox effort
The Solar Sox’s three-game winning streak ended Monday at the hands of Peoria in a 9-2 decision. A six-run fifth inning was more than enough cushion for the Javelinas.
Cubs prospect Matt Szczur delivered most of the offense, as the Sox totaled just seven hits as a team. The center fielder singled in the bottom of the first and promptly stole second. He would score four batters later on a Javier Baez sac fly. In the fifth inning, Szczur doubled to left, scoring the runner from second. He finished the day 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base.
Baez started at short and went hitless, though he did pick up an RBI on the sac fly in the first inning.
Mesa will take on Peoria again Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 local time.
