Javier Baez homers in Mesa loss
Mesa continued its losing streak, dropping an 8-2 matchup to Peoria Thursday afternoon.
Javier Baez hit his league-tying fourth home run of the fall with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. He also leads the league with 14 RBI. Baez scored the games’ first run in the fifth inning after drawing a walk, stealing second, getting to third on an error and then stealing home when pitcher Josh Spence made a move to first. He finished the day 1-for-3.
Matt Szczur and Rubi Silva each went 0-for-4 and no Cubs pitchers threw Thursday.
Mesa heads to Scottsdale Friday with first pitch scheduled for 12:35 local time.
