Cubs Minor League Recap: 4/29/14

Kane County picked up a win Tuesday, while Daytona couldn’t put any runs on the board. Iowa was called off due to inclement weather, and Tennessee had the night off. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s minor league action.

Daytona Cubs (9-16)
5th Place (-11.0)

Daytona managed just two hits in a 7-0 loss at Lakeland.

  • 1B Dan Vogelbach (.230) went 1-for-3. He’s hit safely in six of his last seven games.
  • SS Marco Hernandez (.321) recorded Daytona’s other hit. He went 1-for-3.
  • RHP Zach Cates (1.76) allowed just one run while fanning three in three innings of relief. Right-handed hitters are just 6-for-40 (.150) against him this season.

Kane County Cougars (18-7)
1st Place (+2.0)

Kane County returned to its winning ways with a 2-1 victory at Cedar Rapids.

  • RHP Tyler Skulina gave up one earned run over five innings while striking out two.
  • CF Jacob Hannemann (.271) batted leadoff and went 3-for-4 with a run, a double (2), a triple (2) and one RBI (11).
  • C Will Remillard (.373) posted his second three-hit game in his last three, going 3-for-4.
  • LHP Nathan Dorris (3-1, 1.29) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn his third win of the year.
  • RHP Zack Godley (1.54) struck out five hitters over the final two frames to earn his fifth save of the campaign.
