Cubs Minor League Report: 4/27/16

It was a quiet night for Cubs affiliates, as only Myrtle Beach took the field Wednesday. Iowa and Tennessee had the afternoon off, while South Bend was rained out. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s abbreviated Cubs minor league action.

Myrtle Beach had a pair of home runs in a 5-1 win over Potomac.

  • 2B Ian Happ (.319) went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer in the first inning. He has 10 RBI in his last nine games.
  • C Cael Brockmeyer (.147) added a two-run homer in the fifth inning and finished 1 for 4.
  • DH Daniel Lockhart (.226) collected his third multi-hit game in his last four contests, going 2 for 4 with a double (3), a run scored and an RBI (1).
  • RHP Daury Torrez (2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 5 SO) struck out five batters in two scoreless innings.
  • RHP Zach Hedges (2.16 ERA) pitched six strong innings, giving up one earned run and fanning six to get the win. He has allowed three earned runs in 19.2 innings over his last three starts.
