Cubs Minor League Recap: 7/12/16

Tennessee was the only team that took the field Tuesday, though the Smokies couldn’t get the bats going. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s minor-league action.

The Smokies stranded seven runners and were held scoreless, losing to Chattanooga, 4-0.

  • Clayton Richard completed his fourth rehab start, allowing four hits and walking none in three innings. He threw 43 pitches, 28 for strikes. He has an 0-1 record with a 2.13 ERA (3 ER/12.2 IP) between Double-A and Triple-A.
  • LHP Brian Matusz (3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) followed Richard, fanning six batters over 3.1 IP in his Double-A debut.
  • LF Kelly Dugan (.192) went 2 for 3 while 3B Chesny Young (.290) reached three times, going 2 for 3 with a walk.
  • 2B Daniel Lockhart (.250) was 1 for 4.
