Andres Torres propelled Iowa to a 6-5 win over Salt Lake with a game-winning double in the bottom of the ninth inning.

RHP Randy Wells (ND 8-4, 4.24) 6.0 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

• CF Andres Torres doubled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth-inning as part of a 2-for-4 day that included a walk, the double, a triple, his team leading 17th stolen base and a run scored.
• C Casey McGehee went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI ... his 76 RBI lead the team.
• RHP Kevin Hart earned the victory in relief, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth-inning of work ... improved to 3-2 on the year, lowering his ERA from 3.30 to 3.23.


Tennessee Smokies (AA): 24-22 Overall

Tennessee used four home runs and 20 hits to slug its way past the host Chattanooga Lookouts, 18-16.

RHP Marco Carillo (W 1-0, 7.20) 5.0 IP, 9 H, 9 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

HOMERS - Jake Fox 2 (18), Josh Lansford (1), Doug Deeds (10)

• LF Jake Fox fell a triple shy of the cycle, but still led the Smokies with a 4-for-5 day, including two home runs, a double, four runs and three RBI.
• RF Doug Deeds went 3-for-6 with a double, home run, three runs and three RBI ... his .337 average is tied for third in the Southern League, just three points behind league-leader Angel Salome of Huntsville (.340).
• 1B Kyle Reynolds reached base four times during the offensive explosion, finishing the day 3-for-5 with a walk, two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI.


Daytona Cubs (A+): 25-17 Overall

Palm Beach rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to race past Daytona, 4-1, in Florida State League action.

RHP Billy Muldowney (ND 5-3, 2.98) 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

• LF Ty Wright finished the day 2-for-4, raising his average to .301 ... he has reached base five times in his last nine plate appearances.
• CF James Adduci went 2-for-5 with his team-leading 22nd stolen base of the year.
• Starting pitcher Billy Muldowney scattered six hits over five innings of work, allowing one run and two walks, while striking out two ... is 1-0 with an 0.82 ERA (1 ER/11.0 IP) in two August starts.

Western Division Tied 4th Place (-4.5)

Behind strong starting pitching and timely hitting, the division-leading Burlington Bees stung the Chiefs, 6-2.

RHP Kevin Kreier (L 5-6, 3.72) 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

• RF Josh Harrison recorded the lone multi-hit game in the Peoria attack, finishing the day 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
• 3B Jovan Rosa went 1-4 with a run scored ... he is 11-for-25 (.440) with three doubles, three homers, six runs scored and eight RBI over the past seven games.
• Starting pitcher Kevin Kreier took the hard-luck loss, tossing 5.0 innings of two run, six hit ball.


Boise Hawks (A-): 30-19 Overall

Salem-Keizer clubbed 15 hits to power past Boise, 16-6, at Memorial Stadium.

HOMERS - Ryan Flaherty (4)

• 3B Josh Vitters extended his hitting streak to 14 games, going 2-for-5 with a run scored ... he has gone 23-for-64 (.359) with seven doubles, two homers, 13 runs scored and eight RBI over the streak.
• SS Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-5 with his second homer in as many days, two runs and an RBI ... he has hit in six straight contests, going 13-for-27 (.481) with four walks, seven doubles, a triple, two homers, nine runs scored, seven RBI and four straight multi-hit affairs over that stretch.
• 1B Sean Hoorelbeke went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, raising his average to .366 and his on-base percentage to .422.


Mesa Cubs (R): 5-4 Overall; First Half: 18-10

The AZL Padres used a four-run, third-inning to defeat Mesa, 7-1.

• SS Starlin Castro went 1-for-4 with a double, and scored the lone Cubs' run.
• RHP David Cales tossed 2.0 innings of one-hit, scoreless relief, fanning three ... in 7.2 innings over six appearances (one start), he has 11 punchouts and only three walks.
