Wood activated; Eyre DFA'd

The Cubs activated Kerry Wood today from the 15-day disabled list. Wood has been battling a blister on his right index finger. Left-hand pitcher Scott Eyre was designated for assignment.

Jim Hendry said in a media session today that Eyre cleared trade waivers as of noon today, giving the team seven days to trade him somewhere. Any time a player is designated for assignment, thus replacing him on the 40-man roster, the club has 10 days total to move the player.

Scott was emotional today talking to the media and said how he really likes playing here. After a couple solid years with the Cubs, this year never got off on the right foot with injuries keeping him to just 11.1 inning this season.

Jim said he made the decision based on the 12 pitchers the team was going to need until rosters expand on Sept. 1. Though Sean Marshall could have been optioned to the minors, Jim said he gives the bullpen depth in being able to pitch multiple innings and with the job he has done so far.
