It was a good day for the Cubs’ minor league affiliates. Iowa earned a walk-off win, Daytona split a doubleheader, Boise opened up the second half with a victory and Mesa cruised. Tennessee was unable to snap its losing streak while Kane County had the day off. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Iowa Cubs (50-54)

Iowa snapped its four-game losing streak, defeating visiting New Orleans 1-0 in walk-off fashion.

  • RHP Guillermo Moscoso gave up one hit in five scoreless innings of work, striking out nine. He’s 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA (7 ER/30.1 IP) and 29 strikeouts in five July starts.
  • 3B Edwin Maysonet’s (.260) two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Cubs. He finished 1-for-4 with the RBI (23), extending his hitting streak to three games.
  • 2B Logan Watkins (.247) recorded his 22nd multihit game, going 2-for-4.
  • RHP Brian Schlitter (2.45) earned his first win of the season with a perfect ninth inning of work.

Tennessee Smokies (18-12)

Tennessee lost its third straight game, falling at Huntsville 6-4.

  • SS Javier Baez (.203) went 1-for-4 with a sixth inning solo home run.
  • LF John Andreoli (.293) was 1-for-4 with a double (7) and one RBI (8). He’s hit safely in four of his last five games.
  • 3B Christian Villanueva (.254) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and his 25th double of the campaign.
  • RF Rubi Silva (.278) extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 1-for-4 with a double (21). He’s hitting .306 (11-for-36) during the streak.
  • RHP’s Marcos Mateo (0.00) and Frank Batista (2.49) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Daytona Cubs (16-12-1)

GM 1: Daytona failed to win its sixth straight game (one tie) with a 5-3 setback against visiting St. Lucie.

  • 2B Wes Darvill (.253) went 3-for-3 with a double (8) and two RBI (20).
  • 1B Dustin Geiger (.281) went 1-for-3 with a double (24).
  • RHP Austin Reed (4.33) allowed just two hits in a season-high 4.1 scoreless innings of relief. He owns a 0.47 ERA (1 ER/19.0 IP) with 10 strikeouts in his last six outings.

GM 2: Daytona used a three-run first inning to cruise past St. Lucie 7-0.

  • 3B-SS Wes Darvill (.260) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double (9), a triple (4) and a season-high-tying three RBI (23). He finished the day 5-for-6 with five RBI.
  • RF Taiwan Easterling (.208) went 1-for-3 with an RBI (24) and two stolen bases (8).
  • LF Pin-Chieh Chen (.242) went 1-for-2 with a fourth-inning solo home run.
  • RHP Pierce Johnson recorded his third straight victory and has now allowed just one earned run in his last 16.0 innings of work (0.56 ERA).
  • LHP Frank Del Valle (2.83) preserved the shutout with two scoreless innings of relief.

Boise Hawks (1-0)

Boise opened the second half of the season with their third straight shutout, beating host Eugene 6-0. The Hawks have won 10 of their last 11 games.

  • 1B Jacob Rogers (.293) homered for the second straight game, going 2-for-4 with a double (6), the home run and two RBI (27). He has recorded an RBI in four consecutive games.
  • 2B Daniel Lockhart (.311) went 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBI (16).
  • CF Jacob Hannemann (.296) went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases (3).
  • RHP Corbin Hoffner (1.35) tossed three innings of relief to extend his scoreless innings streak to 11.0 IP.

Mesa Cubs (13-13)

Mesa blew past the visiting AZL Indians with a 7-2 victory.

  • CF David DeJesus (.364) went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the fourth game of his rehabilitation assignment.
  • LF Charcer Burks (.179) and 1B Kelvin Freeman (.264) each recorded a hit while driving in a run.
  • RHP Ethan Elias (1-0, 3.38) earned his first victory of the season, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings of relief while fanning three.

The lower levels were victorious, as Boise wrapped up its first half with a win and Mesa secured a one-run victory Monday. Iowa, Tennessee and Kane County all lost, and Daytona was rained out. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Iowa Cubs (49-54)

Iowa dropped a 9-2 decision to visiting New Orleans in a rain-shortened, seven-inning affair. The Cubs have lost four straight games.

  • SS Donnie Murphy (.264) extended his hitting streak to nine games with a third-inning solo home run. He’s hitting .300 (12-for-40) with two home runs and six RBI during the streak.
  • 1B Brad Nelson (.259) recorded his 22nd multihit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double (16).
  • LF Edgar Gonzalez (.381) went 1-for-3 with a double (4) and an RBI (2). He’s hit safely in five of his last six games.

Tennessee Smokies (18-11)

Visiting Jacksonville used a three-run eighth inning to beat the Smokies 5-4.

  • 1B Justin Bour (.233) went 2-for-4 with a fourth-inning solo home run.
  • C Rafael Lopez (.229) was 2-for-4 with a double (18) and a season-high three RBI (27).
  • LF/RF Rubi Silva (.278) went 2-for-4 with a run scored, extending his hitting streak to eight games. He’s hitting .313 (10-for-32) during the streak.
  • RHP Kyle Hendricks received a no-decision despite allowing no earned runs in seven innings. The All-Star owns a 0.60 ERA (2 ER/30.0 IP) with 26 strikeouts in his last five starts.

Kane County Cougars (7-22)

Kane County had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss to Lansing.

  • LF Reggie Golden (.240) homered for the second straight game, going 1-for-4 with the clout and two RBI (13).
  • 1B Dan Vogelbach (.293) extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 1-for-3 with two walks. He’s hitting .500 (16-for-32) during the streak.
  • DH Rock Shoulders (.248) doubled for the second straight game, going 1-for-5 with his 17th two-bagger.
  • RHP Justin Amlung (4.88) and RHP Stephen Perakslis (3.45) each tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Boise Hawks (21-17)

Boise wrapped up the first half of the season, recording its second straight three-hit shutout to beat visiting Everett 10-0. The Hawks have won nine of their last 10 games.

  • 1B Jacob Rogers (.287) went 2-for-5 with a double (5), a home run and one RBI (25).
  • 2B Dan Lockhart (.310) and DH Lance Rymel (.324) recorded two hits apiece while driving in a run.
  • C Cael Brockmeyer (.352) recorded his fourth multihit effort in his last five games, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI (8).
  • 3B Jordan Hankins (.247) went 2-for-5 with a run scored, a double (3) and one RBI (4).

Mesa Cubs (12-13)

Mesa got past the visiting AZL Royals with a 2-1 victory.

  • 3B Kris Bryant (.167) recorded his first professional hit and RBI, going 1-for-3 with a double (1) and two RBI (2). He has since been promoted to Boise.
  • RHP Josh Davis (2-0, 0.00) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, earning his second win of the season.
  • RHP Trevor Graham (1.50) recorded the final six outs to convert his first save.

Kane County won in walk-off fashion and Boise’s bats came, but Iowa, Tennessee, Daytona and Mesa all took losses Sunday. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Iowa (49-53)

Iowa dropped its third straight game, falling at Round Rock 3-0.

  • RHP Barret Loux gave up three hits over five innings, striking out five and walking five.
  • DH Donnie Murphy (.264) extended his hitting streak to eight games, going 1-for-4 with a double (15). He’s hitting .306 (11-for-36) during the streak.
  • 3B Josh Vitters (.306) was 1-for-2 with a walk. He’s hit safely in five straight games.
  • RHP Alberto Cabrera (0.00) struck out two while tossing two scoreless innings of relief in his Iowa debut.

Tennessee Smokies (18-10)

Tennessee managed just three hits in an 8-1 setback versus Jacksonville. The Smokies were outhit 18-3 and committed six errors.

  • 2B Arismendy Alcantara (.284) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a double (26). He has recorded a double in three straight games.
  • SS Javier Baez (.216) extended his hitting streak to three games, going 1-for-4 with a double (2).

Boise Hawks (20-7)

Boise collected 16 hits in a 7-0 victory over visiting Everett.

  • LF Yasiel Balaguert (.276) went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, a double (7) and one RBI (25).

Mesa committed a season-high seven errors, dropping a 10-9, 10-inning decision at the AZL Dodgers.

  • 3B Kris Bryant (.000) was hitless in three at-bats in his professional debut.

Iowa rallied from behind while Boise extended its winning streak and Mesa picked up a victory in the ninth Thursday. Tennessee and Kane County both fell, and Daytona was rained out. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Iowa Cubs (49-50)

Iowa plated two runs in the sixth inning and four more in the eighth, rallying past host Round Rock 6-3.

  • SS Donnie Murphy (.261) went 2-for-4 with a double (14), a homer, two runs scored and four RBI (38).
  • RHP Yoanner Negrin (3-3, 4.57) earned the win in relief, allowing a hit while fanning two in a scoreless seventh frame.
  • RHP Brian Schlitter (1.52) converted his 12th save, striking out the side in a perfect ninth inning of relief.

Tennessee Smokies (16-9)

Tennessee committed four errors in a 7-6 loss to visiting Jacksonville.

Boise was the only affiliate to capture a win Wednesday, while Daytona, Kane County and Mesa all fell short. Smokies players who participated in the Southern League All-Star Game struggled, and Iowa had the day off. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Tennesee Smokies (16-8)

Eleven pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the South Division beat the North 6-0 in the Southern League All-Star Game at Bragan Field in Jacksonville, Fla.

  • OF Matt Szczur (0-for-2), SS Arismendy Alcantara (0-for-2), 3B Christian Villanueva (0-for-3) and C Rafael Lopez (0-for-1) each went hitless.
  • RHP Kyle Hendricks suffered the loss, surrendering two first-inning runs on three hits.
  • RHP Alberto Cabrera struck out in a hitless third inning.

Daytona Cubs (15-9)

Daytona went into the ninth inning with the lead, but was unable to close out the game. The Cubs fell at Charlotte 4-3 in 11 innings.

  • RHP Yao-Lin Wang (3.35) had his longest outing of the year with 5.2 innings of work, allowing two walks, two runs, five hits and fanning two.
  • C Chadd Krist (.236) went 2-for-3, extending his hitting streak to four games with two walks, one run scored and an RBI (21).
  • 1B Dustin Geiger (.288) went 3-for-5 with a double (21).
  • 3B Ben Carhart (.261) went 1-for-5 with an RBI double (43 RBI, 24 2B). He has hit three doubles in the last five contests.

Kane County Cougars (5-19)

Kane County dropped an 8-2 decision at home against Great Lakes.

  • C Wilson Contreras (.234) went 1-for-3 with a walk, one run scored, a solo home run (7) and one RBI (32).
  • RF Kevin Encarnacion (.239) went 1-for-2 with two walks, one run scored, a solo home run (1) and one RBI (2).
  • RHP Juan Paniagua (7.71) made his debut with Kane County, tossing 2.1 innings of three-run, two-hit ball and allowing four walks while fanning two batters.

Boise Hawks (17-16)

Boise extended its winning streak to five games with a 5-1 victory on the road to sweep Hillsboro.

  • C Cael Brockmeyer (.256) went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. He extended his hitting streak to five games with a ninth-inning single.
  • RHP Loiger Padron (5.92) got his second win of the season as he tossed three shutout innings and fanned two.

It was a brief night of baseball, with only Boise in action Tuesday night. The Hawks extended their winning streak, while all the other sides had the day off. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Boise Hawks (16-16)

Boise extended its win streak to four games with a 3-0 shutout on the road at Hillsboro.

  • RHP James Pugliese surrendered two hits over six scoreless innings, striking out six for Boise.
  • RHP Trey Masek (0.00) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn his first career professional win.
  • LHP Matt Iannazzo (3.21) recorded his second save in as many nights, striking out the side in the ninth inning to convert his fourth save of the season.
  • SS Carlos Penalver (.202) went 1-for-3 with one run scored, a double (5) and one RBI (7).
  • 2B Daniel Lockhart (.330), 1B Jacob Rogers (.291) and C Lance Rymel (.283) each recorded two hits.

Daytona had its four-game winning streak snapped, falling to the visiting Jupiter Hammerheads 8-4.

  • CF Zeke DeVoss (.251) went 2-for-5 with a run scored, a double (8), a home run and two RBI (40).

Daytona, Boise and Mesa all picked up wins Sunday while Iowa lost in extras and Kane County continued its losing streak. Tennessee was rained out. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Iowa Cubs (48-50)

Visiting Albuquerque scored four runs in the top of the 18th inning to beat Iowa 5-1. The five-and-a-half hour game featured 17 pitchers, and Iowa tied a franchise record for most innings played, dating back to Aug. 1, 1999, at Tacoma.

  • RHP Jake Arrieta went six innings, allowing three hits and one earned while striking out nine.
  • LF Ty Wright (.255) reached base four times, going 2-for-6 with two walks.
  • CF Jae-Hoon Ha (.221) drove in Iowa’s lone run, going 1-for-4 with two walks and one RBI (7).
  • LHP Jeffry Antigua (4.07) tossed a season high six scoreless innings of relief. He’s holding right-handed hitters to a .222 batting average (12-for-54).
  • RHP Marcus Hatley (4.71) struck out two in two scoreless innings. He’s allowed just two runs over his last eight appearances (9.1 IP).

Daytona Cubs (15-7)

  • C Chadd Krist (.225) homered for the second straight game, going 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, a home run and one RBI (20).

Kane County lost its seventh straight game, falling at West Michigan 5-2.

  • C Carlos Escobar (.260) went 1-for-3 with a fourth-inning two-run homer.

Tennessee, Daytona and Mesa all racked up victories while Iowa, Kane County and Boise were all limited offensively in losses Thursday. Here are some highlights from yesterday’s action.

Iowa Cubs (47-48)

Iowa lost its third straight game, falling at home to Albuquerque 4-1.

  • 1B Brad Nelson (.268) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a triple (1).
  • LF Ty Wright (.275) extended his hitting streak to a season-high nine games, going 1-for-3 with a walk He’s hitting .343 (12-for-35) during the streak.
  • RHP’s Marcus Hatley (5.21), Eduardo Sanchez (4.34) and Brian Schlitter (1.74) combined to toss three scoreless innings of relief while allowing just one hit.

Tennessee Smokies (13-8)

Tennessee won its third straight game, beating host Jackson 4-1.

  • 2B Arismendy Alcantara (.281) recorded his seventh, three-hit game of the season, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, two RBI (45) and one stolen base (22).
  • 3B Jonathan Mota (.253) went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a triple (1).
  • RHP Alberto Cabrera earned his team-leading ninth win of the season. Cabrera retired the first 13 hitters of the game, and carried a perfect game into the fifth inning.
  • LHP Zach Rosscup (2.08) struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to convert his third save of the year.

Daytona Cubs (12-7)

Daytona snapped a two-game skid with a 2-1 victory at Lakeland.

  • C Taylor Davis (.230) went 2-for-3 with a walk and one RBI (7).
  • RF Bijan Rademacher (.273) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a triple (2).
  • RHP Pierce Johnson has allowed just one home run in 22.0 innings of work with Daytona.
  • RHP Austin Reed (4.87) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to record his second save of the campaign.

Kane County Cougars (4-15)

Kane County lost its fourth straight game, falling at South Bend 6-1.

  • CF Albert Almora (.358) extended his hitting streak to five games, going 2-for-5 with a run and a double (13).
  • 3B Jeimer Candelario (.251) recorded his third-straight multihit game, going 2-for-4.
  • 1B Daniel Vogelbach (.276) went 1-for-4 while registering his team-leading 57th RBI.

Boise Hawks (12-15)

Boise mustered just six hits in a 4-0 loss at Vancouver.

  • LF Trevor Gretzky (.257) went 2-for-3 with a double (2).
  • C Cael Brockmeyer (.250) recorded his first multihit game, going 2-for-3.
  • RHP Corbin Hoffner (2.04) and LHP Sam Wilson (0.00) combined to toss three scoreless innings of relief.

Mesa Cubs (9-9)

Mesa used a four-run, sixth-inning to sneak past the AZL Padres 6-2.

  • 2B Zak Blair (.367) went 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI (10).
  • LF Rashad Crawford (.216) went 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored, two triples (2), one RBI (4) and one stolen base (8).
  • 1B Kelvin Freeman (.182) and RF Yasiel Balaguert (.500) each recorded two hits.
  • RHP Zak Hermans (1-0, 0.00) struck out three hitters in 2.0-scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.

Tennessee swept its doubleheader and Mesa picked up a win but Iowa, Daytona, Kane County and Boise all fell Wednesday. Here are highlights from yesterday’s action.

Iowa Cubs (47-47)

Iowa couldn’t overcome an early five-run deficit, falling to host New Orleans 6-5.

  • 1B Brad Nelson (.269) recorded his fourth, three-hit game, going 3-for-5 with his team-leading 54th RBI.
  • SS Donnie Murphy (.261) went 2-for-5 with a run scored, a double (13) and one RBI (34).
  • RF Anthony Giansanti (.529) extended his hitting streak to seven games, going 2-for-4 with a RBI (5). He’s hitting .571 (8-for-14) during the streak.
  • RHP’s Esmailin Caridad (5.02) and Michael Bowden (2.41) combined to toss three scoreless innings of relief. Bowden has not allowed a run in his last nine appearances (12.0 IP).

Tennessee Smokies (12-8)

GM 1: Tennessee defeated host Jackson 7-2 in the makeup game from June 28.

  • SS Arismendy Alcantara (.283) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double (18) and one RBI (34).
  • 1B Justin Bour (.267) reached base four times, going 3-for-3 with a walk, a double (6) and two RBI (25).
  • CF Rubi Silva (.271) went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and one RBI (30).
  • RHP P.J. Francescon (1-0, 2.08) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn his first win of the season.
  • RHP Carlos Gutierrez (0.00) allowed an unearned run in 2.0 innings to convert his first save.

GM 2: Tennessee scored four runs in the fifth inning to sweep the doubleheader with a 5-2 victory.

  • RF Rubi Silva (.278) recorded Tennessee’s lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI (38).
  • 2B Arismendy Alcantara (.275) went 1-for-4 with a fifth-inning, three-run homer.
  • RHP Kevin Rhoderick (5.40) recorded the final four outs to convert his third save of the season.

Daytona Cubs (11-7)

Lakeland used a five-run eighth inning to beat visiting Daytona, 7-6.

  • 1B Dustin Geiger (.282) was 2-for-4 with a second-inning, solo home run.
  • RF Bijan Rademacher (.276) went 3-for-4 with a run scored, a double (3), a triple (1) and one RBI (6).
  • 2B Brad Zapenas (.500) and SS Elliot Soto (.292) each recorded two hits.

Kane County Cougars (4-14)

Kane County lost its third-straight game, falling at South Bend 7-2.

  • 3B Jeimer Candelario (.248) went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, a home run and two RBI (32).
  • CF Albert Almora (.356) extended his hitting streak to four games, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double (12).
  • SS Marco Hernandez (.261) went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to five games.

Boise Hawks (12-14)

Boise pitchers surrendered eight walks in a 6-5 setback at Vancouver. The Hawks have lost six of their last seven games.

  • RF Jose Dore (.200) went 1-for-3 with a first-inning, two-run homer.
  • CF Shawon Dunston (.318) recorded his third-straight, multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
  • SS Daniel Lockhart (.321) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI (8). He’s hit safely in five of his last six games.
  • RHP’s Jasvir Rakkar (3.78) and Tyler Bremer (3.00) combined to toss 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Rakkar is holding left-handed hitters to a .179 batting average (5-for-28).

Mesa Cubs (8-9)

Mesa snapped its four-game losing skid with a 14-2 rout of the visiting AZL Padres.

  • 2B Zak Blair (.333) and RF Yasiel Balaguert (.667) both went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Balaguert drove in his first run with Mesa.
  • 3B Francisco Sanchez (.232) went 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored, a double (5), a triple (2) and one RBI (10).
  • C Wilfredo Petit (.103) went 1-for-4 with a season-high four RBI (5).
  • DH Xavier Batista (.233) and 1B Kelvin Freeman (.133) drove in two runs apiece.
  • RHP Josh Davis (1-0, 0.00) earned his first win of the season with a scoreless inning of relief.
