With the Cubs and Brewers separated by just one game — and Chicago and Milwaukee just some 90 miles apart — we at Vine Line felt it was a no-brainer to make the trip up to Miller Park. Mike and I will be blogging tonight from the press box, offering first-hand perspectives on the game and Cubs fans attending.

Over 1,000 fans are registered for today’s second annual Ultimate Seventh-Inning Stretch Competition. Fans will channel Harry Caray (or maybe Ozzy Osbourne) all over the ballpark, from the home clubhouse to the media interview room to the Mezzanine Suites. Volunteers from the front office videotape every participant’s performance and ultimately pick the 50 semi-finalists. Fans will then vote on cubs.com for the top 10, to compete and be judged again in August.
The marketing department is really excited to do this event again, after last year’s competition showed yet another passionate side of Cubs fans. Every age from kids to grandparents traveled from all over the country, dressed in old Cubs gear or creative costumes, pleading their case as to why they are the ultimate fan to sing the stretch.
And this year, fans will get a great souvenir: their very own t-shirt saying they sang the stretch. But I’m guessing that will be a small part of the memories our fans will take away from tomorrow.
Did you sing last year? Are you competing today? What singing style brings out the stretch for you?

The Cubs’ Community Affairs department currently is auctioning off four autographed Stars and Stripes caps, to benefit Chicago Cubs Charities. The caps available are signed by Kosuke Fukudome, Aramis Ramirez, Lou Piniella and Geovany Soto.
Better hurry, though: Bidding for these exclusive items ends this Sunday night.
